Perseid meteor shower — showing this week!

What a wonderful excuse to stay up late and camp out on the porch. This annual summer shower of meteors in sure to be a memory maker. The meteors are from the comet swift-tuttle and are estimated to be over a thousand years old. At peak times you may see over 40 an hour.

The best viewing time for North America this year is going to be after 11pm on August 11th and again on August 12th, so check the weather forecast and pick your time.

The Air Force Space Surveillance Radar is scanning the skies above Texas. When a meteor or satellite passes over the facility–ping!–there is an echo.
