The Twitter Effect-weekend virtual conferencing @educon21
Virtually at educon21 over the weekend. The staff and students at SLA did a wonderful job. Parent volunteers too, I hear!It was easy to become part of the conference from afar as all the sessions were streamed using mogulus. With the visual, audio, chat and twitter all happening at once it was a cacophony for the edtech senses. One feature of twitter I used was to favorite tweets as they came in so I could quickly after the event go back and follow the links or digest the 140 character content. Since the conference a twitter search for educon, or #educon or #educon21 soon connects me to everyone’s contribution, not just the people I follow on twitter.
Disctinct memories that stick in my mind now it is Monday include:
Chris Lehman saying he wants 4 things for “his kids”. He want them to be thoughtful, compassionate, kind, and wise.
These tweets were particularly pertinent for the educational content:

And then these for their use of twitter during the conference

The conversations I heard helped me learn how to be a better teacher. They helped me learn how to articulate a message more eloquently, and it helped me transcend the potential budget cuts that came down today at school. We will still teach, we can still have conversations with our students, and we can still model goodness.
