Speak slowly, children listen

Getting children’s attention in a class for me is easy, I have an accent. If I start to lose them, one thing that works is to slow down my cadence of speech until they notice enough to pay attention to why is this teacher slowing down. This article highlights why this is so…here

A high school student processes words about 25 -30 words per minute less than an average adult talks.

Wichita State audiology professor points out that this can be a problem in high school classes.

How fast do you speak? What happens if you slow down? I’m going to try it. I’ll let you know.

FYI: I now run small (2-4 people) classes and individual online tech sessions
