What starts on the web, stays on the web

After listening to Alan November at his pre-conference at BLC08, an education conference in Boston. I was reminded of how he likes to play dumb with high school students.

He asks if they have heard of MySpace.

They groan.

He tells them that what they put on their sites will be there for all to see when they apply for college or for a job.

They groan again, and tell him OF COURSE they are going to delete it all before they apply.

Then he suddenly gets smart and shows them www.archive.org.

This is the wayback machine that lets you travel back in time and see sites on the web as they were depending on what year you choose.

At that point he describes the students as turning white and gasping for breath!

Please show this to your teens and tweens, students and teachers.

This article also came to my attention which is also pertinent.
